The Syrian refugee tripped by a Hungarian camerawoman while he was carrying his young son in his arms arrived in Spain tonight to start a new life with his son Zaid.

Osama Abdel-Muhsen Alghadab was felled by disgraced Petra Laszlo as he tried to cross the Serbian border with Hungary on September 8 with son Zaid, seven, in his arms.

The youngster suffered concussion when he hit his head on the ground as his dad lost his balance and the shocking images made headlines around the world.

He was given a hero's welcome when he arrived in Madrid last night. Little Zaid beamed as a friendly crowd greeted them while he sat on the shoulders of his brother Mohamed, 18.

Getafe’s mayor Sara Hernandez also revealed dad-of-four Mr Alghadab, 52, who had a job supervising sports teachers in his war-town hometown of Deir ez-Zor, could end up working as a coach for leading Spanish football club Getafe.

The head of a school for soccer coaches in Getafe, on the outskirts of Madrid, said staff tracked down the man after reading he had previously done a similar job in Syria.

"We got the idea to help a fellow football coach," Miguel Angel Galan, who runs the school known as Cenafe, was quoted as telling Cadenar Ser radio.

The radio station said the local administration would provide him with housing.

Neither the school or the Getafe town council responded to requests for comment.
