Teargas rocks Bunyangabu as police attempted to separate NRM & FDC supporters
Teargas rocked Rubona Town in Bunyangabu District as police struggled to separate supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM and their Forum for Democratic Change, FDC counterparts on Tuesday evening.
Trouble started when NRM district flag bearers who were having a joint meeting in the area were interrupted by FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Obio when he arrived at the same place and stopped to greet his supporters.
NRM and FDC supporters immediately started exchanging words with Amuriat’s team accusing police in the area of ignoring NRM’s candidates and its supporters who were violating covid-19 guidelines under their sight.
The candidate who was headed to his campaign venue in Busita Nyakigumba refused to move until police gave him a reason as to why NRM and its candidates were let free to campaign while their supporters had no face masks and the venue had no hand washing facility.
Transport along Bunyangabu-Fort portal road was paralyzed for about 40 minutes, forcing the police to use tear gas to separate both crowds.
Candidate Amuriat and his team would later proceed to his campaign venue in Nyakigumba.
