Ten-year-old in hiding over dad’s murder as four sisters face jail time for killing own brother
The police in Rukungiri are searching for a 10-year-old child who went into hiding after killing his own father with a hoe.
Trouble started when 33-year-old Pius Tugumisirize, the child’s father picked a quarrel with his wife Ruth Owakubariho, both residents of Rwesigiro village, Kikarara parish Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri district around 10 PM on Saturday.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Spokesperson says Tugumisirize struck Owakubariho with a hoe leaving her unconscious and fled into hiding in Queen Elizabeth national park.
However, his luck ran out when his ten-year-old son followed him to the hideout and assaulted him with the same hoe on the head. The child then rushed home to inform the family members what he had done to the father.
Tugumisirize was later found unconscious and rushed to Kirarara clinic while bleeding profusely before passing on Sunday.
The child has since fled into hiding, while the mother was picked by police to help with investigations.
At Kanyeganyegye village in Kashakye parish, Kamwezi sub-county in Rukiga district four sisters ganged up against their 61-year-old brother, Ibrahim Kato Mugwanya and killed him over land.
According to Elly Maate, the deceased’s neighbor, Wallen Karakure told police that Mugwanya found his sisters digging on their family land and chased them away arguing that they are not supposed to utilize the land because it was not given to them by their late parents.
A fight ensued and in the process, Mugwanya was hit with a hoe on the forehead and waist.
He was rushed to Nyakihanga Church of Uganda health center II for treatment but died on Sunday morning. Maate says police are investigating the incident at Rukiga police station under file number CRB 359/2021.
