Muslims Urged to Participate actively in politics ahead of 2021 General elections
Muslims in Teso region have been asked to join elective politics and fully participate in the upcoming 2021 General election.
The call was made by the District Khadi, Sheik Asuman Muhammed Ocen during Eid Al- Adha prayers at Soroti Main Mosque on Friday. As per the Ministry of health guidelines on COVID-19, only 20 Muslims were cleared for prayers in order to maintain social distancing.
Ocen said that a few Muslims are participating in active politics in the region, which leaves many issues of Muslim faith neglected.
He further challenged Muslims to embrace education to enable them seek employment in the government and Non-governmental Organizations.
Meanwhile, Hajji Abdullah Abdurrahman the treasurer of Soroti Main Mosque challenged all politicians who are seeking votes in the forthcoming general election to desist from serving the interests of the party and abandoning the electorate but rather the communities they represent.
He noted that it is painful to see representatives of the people turning their backs to the electorate in favor of some selfish individuals.
Muslims in the region slaughtered at least 1,400 animals almost half a number of what has been given to the region.
