Woman, husband in trouble for murder of step child
Police have arrested a couple in Omoro District over the death of their seven-year-old son.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema says that on July 22, Evelyn Akello, assaulted her stepson Edmond Opiyo, after his father, Tony Ogwang directed her to take the boy to the nearest health facility for treatment.
Police preliminary findings indicate that instead of accompanying the boy to Odek Health Centre III, Akello, a resident of Widyel Village in Odek Sub-County beat the boy on the way consequently causing him severe physical injuries.
Okema says that investigations revealed that on July 23, health workers referred the sick boy to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where he was put on oxygen under intensive care unit and breathed his last two days later.
A postmortem examination conducted after revealed that the boy succumbed to the bodily harm.
The deceased’s father was later apprehended for being an accomplice in the case after it emerged that he concealed some of the information about the son’s beating from the medical workers yet the son had confided in him.
Currently, Police are preparing the duo’s file to be taken to the Resident State Attorney for perusal before they are arraigned in court to face charges of murder.
