Missing Mukono reverand found in Soroti
Police have recovered the missing Church of Uganda Reverand Deacon Isaac Mwesigwa who was allegedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen on 9th February 2020 along- Masindye Seeta Road.
Deacon Mwesigwa was found in Soroti today and handed over to police at the East Kyoga Regional police headquarters. Fred Enanga the police spokesperson says that the Deacon last spoke to a one Ssempira Stanley at 10pm on the fateful night and the matter of his disappearance was reported at Seeta Police station.
"His phones went off and have not been active and his vehicle, a Raum old model white in colour, registration number UAR 468D, was recovered abandoned in Seeta Mukono on Monday 10/2/2020 upon reviewing CCTV footages. It was forensically examined for scientific leads" Enanga says in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to Enanga, the victim asked to be transported to any nearby Church, after he was allegedly abandoned in Soroti municipality. A boda boda rider is said to have transported the Deacon to St. Stephen Church, Soroti. The church members informed the Archbishop, His Grace Stanley Ntagari who is on a farewell tour, about his presence.
"We would like to thank the Archbishop who immediately handed over to the police for further management. The victim was found to be weak but in good health with no injuries suffered upon evaluation by the medical team. We also thank members of the community who responded in a positive way to search for the victim" Enanga added.
Police has since informed Deacon Mwesigwa's family about the great news, and further arrangements are under way to transport the victim back to Kampala and trace his movements backwards to the source.
The authorities are also yet to determine the motive behind his kidnapping.
