Teachers, Doctors to eat big in the new salary enhancements
Over 525.1 billion has been set aside to address salary difficulties of different public servants. Government approved pay targets which will be implemented in two phases and paid in a space of 5 years starting from 2018/2019 financial year.
Hon. David Karubanga the minister of state for public service also Ag. Minister of public service said the first phase includes; medical workers, scientists other than medical workers, Legal professionals and prosecutors, Post primary teachers/tutors/instructors, head teachers and their deputies as well as principals and their deputies.
Other beneficiaries in the first phase are; chairpersons of district service commissions, local government political leaders, Uganda police and prisons staff in salary scales and U6, U7, U8; UPDF Militants from the ranks of private to staff Sergeant and teaching and non-teaching staff in Public Universities.
Second phase which includes; completion of oil infrastructure, completion of power stations, projects to address youth empowerment and employment, defence and security revival of the national Airline and construction of irrigation schemes to address climate change, among others.
62.89 billion Shillings will be used to finance the second phase in the 2019/2020 financial year.
The health sector will receive 13.8bn while education sector will take the lion’s share of 49bn.
Public service union leaders have been urged to ensure that workers under their jurisdiction continue to provide services as required of them in the move to deliver Uganda to the middle income status.
Teachers have threatened not to show up for work on Monday when children return to school for second term.
