9 Criminals Arrested, 4 Guns Recovered as Police Intensifies Fight against criminality
Six notorious criminals have been arrested in Ntungamo as police and sister security organizations move to curb crime in the country as per the directive of President Yoweri Museveni.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the press this morning at Naguru police headquarters that three other suspects were arrested in Bwebajja. Police also recovered four guns from the operations (2 SMGs and 2 rifles).
According to Enanga, the operation in Ntungamo was carried out by the police flying squad and the territorial poilice following a spate of robberies in the district.
Intelligence was gathered in the area following two aggravated robberies between the 10th and 16 September where KK Traders in Ntungamo town was robbed.
“When we followed up on this information, we managed to recover two SMGS and three motorcycles that they were using in facilitating their movement” Enanga noted.
He commended the teams for the job well done as they were able to disrupt the violent activities the thugs were carrying out.
The suspects have been identified as Kalenzi Rogers, Nuwagaba Obadia, Bahati Fred, Mbogo Brian, Tumwine Agustine and Nkurunziza Sam a Rwandan citizen who was found with a second gun that was Congolese made.
In Bwebajja, about five suspects scaled the wall of one of the residents and injured the maid. Enanga says police managed to track them down and three have been arrested. These include; Mawanda David, Nsubuga Gerald and Kurusia Ronald.
Police also recovered some of the robbed items and the rifles that were being used by the thugs. Last week, president Museveni tasked police led by DIGP Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi to come up with a comprehensive plan to deal with thugs.
The DIGP came up with five keyways to fight criminality including increased security visibility, profiling, and pursuit of known repeat offenders, linkage and effective communication with the public as well as creating awareness, quick and effective response.
